Come build the hard things: small, robust, security-focused hardware products that Bitcoiners trust with real money. This is a senior embedded role for someone who can take ownership from a napkin sketch through firmware, board bring-up, debugging, manufacturing support, and shipping.

What you'll do

  • Own embedded firmware delivery for new Coinkite hardware products and product revisions.
  • Work close to hardware, datasheets, peripherals, displays, buttons, NFC/radio modules, power, and manufacturing realities.
  • Build reliable user-facing firmware for small-screen security devices where correctness matters.
  • Debug across firmware, hardware, tooling, manufacturing, and customer-support feedback loops.
  • Make practical UX and engineering tradeoffs with founders, hardware engineers, and the rest of the team.

What we're looking for

  • Senior-level embedded experience, ideally 10+ years or equivalent depth shipping real devices.
  • Strong ownership: you can move a product from early prototype to production without heavy supervision.
  • Obsession with robustness, reliability, correctness, and recoverability.
  • Comfortable working from home, managing your own time, and overlapping with Toronto business hours.
  • Good judgment on small-screen UX and willingness to work with the team on company objectives.

Technologies

  • MicroPython, C, ARM, ESP32, and common microcontrollers.
  • I2C, SPI, RS-232, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and websockets.
  • Coding to datasheets and debugging at the edges of hardware behavior.
  • Digital electronics, LCD/OLED display drivers, keyboard scanning, and low-level programming.

Nice to haves

  • Board bring-up experience.
  • Hardware and electronics design experience.
  • Bitcoin hardware wallet or secure-device experience.

When applying

  • Include links or notes about shipped hardware, firmware, board bring-up, or a difficult datasheet/debugging problem you solved.
  • If you have public code, hardware notes, or technical writing, include those too.
